A teenager drowned at Sloppy Floyd State Park in Summerville on Saturday.

According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader:

A 16-year-old male, from out of town, was camping with family when he decided to go fishing.

He was fishing in an area that had a steep bank.

It appears that he may have had a medical episode and fell into the water.

A family that was walking a trail above him located him in the water.

Unfortunately, he had already been in the water too long.

The sheriff’s office, the Summerville Fire Department, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and park management all responded to the call at around 3 p.m. Saturday.
