A Rome man died after he was struck by a train in East Rome on Sunday.
According to a Rome Police Department report:
The trainmaster told police that he sounded the train horn when he saw 61-year-old Craig Dykes Rogers lying on the tracks.
Rogers lifted his head and covered his ears, but did not move.
The train was unable to stop and it struck Rogers.
He was pronounced dead at 3:02 p.m.
Police investigating an attempted armed robbery
Police responded to an attempted armed robbery in West Rome Monday evening.
According to the Rome Police report;
The taxi driver told officers that he was dropping off a man in the area of Walmart.
As the man was exiting the cab, he pulled out a gun, pointed at the back of the driver’s head, and said “Give me your wallet.”
When the driver showed that he had no money, the man took off running toward the wood line at Tamassee Lane.
Rome PD responded to West Rome burglary
Rome Police responded to a burglary alarm at a store located at 1933 Shorter Avenue early Monday morning.
According to the police report:
It appeared the rear door of the business had been pried open.
Video surveillance showed two men entering the store before jumping over the counter, and stealing lottery tickets, cash, and tobacco products.
The value of the lottery tickets was listed at $1,200 while $3,536 in cash was missing.
25 cartons of cigarettes, valued at $1,625, and two boxes of Swisher Sweets had also been taken.
Man charged with aggravated identity fraud
A 21-year-old Rome man is accused of giving his brother’s name to police in an attempt to avoid criminal charges.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Nicholas Julian Arrant presented the name and birth date of his brother while receiving a citation for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Arrant’s real name was discovered after he was taken into custody.
Arrant is charged with aggravated identity fraud, 1st-degree forgery, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and giving a false name or address to law enforcement.
