Three charged with animal cruelty

Three people arrested last week on charges of 1st-degree child cruelty and deprivation of a minor have now also been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Austin Ferris Byess, Robin Leighann Smith, and Albert Foster Byess

According to Floyd County Jail records:

47-year-old Austin Ferris Byess, 37-year-old Robin Leighann Smith, and 47-year-old Albert Foster Byess, all of Cave Spring, failed to provide a shepherd mix named “Spike” with enough food.

The report states that “Spike” showed signs of malnourishment as a result.

At the time of their initial arrests, authorities said the three allowed children to live in the Chubb Road residence that was covered in trash, and animal waste. The children had been living with roaches on their clothing and had a noticeable odor while at school.

Man accused of assaulting woman during argument

A 29-year-old Rome man is facing charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment following his arrest over the weekend.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Christopher Anthony Hill got into an argument with a woman, and when she tried to leave, he grabbed her from behind by the throat and pulled her back inside.

The incident occurred Saturday at a residence on Nixon Avenue, according to the report.

Report: Man ran from police, had stolen financial cards

A Rome man is facing multiple charges following his arrest Saturday at Broad Street and Eighth Avenue.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

35-year-old Corun Jaron Sellars was standing in the middle of the road and refused police commands to move.

He then resisted and then ran as officers tried to place him under arrest.

Sellars was found with suspected methamphetamine and three financial cards that did not belong to him.

He is charged with possession of meth, financial transaction card theft, obstruction of officers, disorderly conduct, pedestrian standing in the roadway, and a probation violation.
