(via City of Rome Press Release)

The Rome City Commission participated in a day-long retreat where the new Unified Land Development Code, homeless/affordable housing, and plans for a new Rome Middle School dominated the discussions.

– It seems likely that the commission will be asked to support the issuance of bonds in excess of $100 million for the $119 million new middle school at some point in December. It would take all of the proceeds from the E-LOST that was approved by voters earlier this year, plus three additional E-LOST packages to repay the bonds.

– The Rome-Floyd Planning Department is currently working through a consultant’s draft of the development code.

– Allie Mitchell, head of the United Way explains that the homeless situation is more of an affordable housing issue and that current housing options are way above the range of cost that many people can afford.
