UPDATE: Walker County Man Wanted For Shooting His Wife, Killed In Exchange Of Gunfire With U.S. Marshal

Early Wednesday morning an investigation was underway when a U.S. Marshal fired their weapon at a hotel on Shallowford rd in chattanooga Tennessee. According to Walker County sheriff Steve Wilson Wednesday afternoon, the wanted fugitive 49-year-old John R. Wells jr. died in an exchange of gunfire with the U.S. Marshals early that morning.

We last reported on wells when he was charged with shooting his wife on October 27th 2022 in Lafayette GA and fled on foot when authorities arrived on the scene. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of his wife, and was also facing an outstanding aggravated assault warrant for his arrest in an unrelated incident two weeks prior to the shooting of his wife, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

Wells wife was treated and released from the hospital after several days of care after the shooting.

According to the Northwest Georgia Scanner Sheriff Wilson thanked the U.S. Marshals’ Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force and South East Regional Fugitive Task Force for their diligence and endless efforts to locate Wells.
As of right now the investigation is ongoing and with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Chattanooga Tennessee.
