For the second time in as many days, a student at Rome High School is found with a gun while on campus.
According to administrators, the student had the gun on his person, but at no time was the weapon used to threaten teachers, students, or staff.
The student willingly turned over the gun to authorities and he will be criminally charged and will be subject to the school system’s disciplinary policies.
Rome City Schools will observe a flexible learning day today (Friday) to review safety and security measures on school campuses. That means no classes for students.
The Rome City Schools Board of Education will hold a called board meeting on Friday (today) for purposes of discussing RCS safety protocols, executive session matters, and other items.
The meeting starts at noon and will be held at the Rome Board of Education administrative offices in the former boardroom located at 508 East Second Street.

A different student was found with a gun in his backpack at Rome High on Tuesday.

A student is facing criminal charges and disciplinary action after a gun was found at Rome High School on Wednesday.
According to the Rome City School System, School administrators and law enforcement were immediately notified when they were made aware of this incident, and they immediately questioned the student about having a weapon on campus.
At no time was the weapon used to threaten any person on campus.
Police say the gun was in the student’s backpack.
The statement from the school system read:
“With a growing concern about safety in school, it is important to note that Rome City Schools already has measures in place to protect our students. Safety is always our main priority when students are on campus. Please, we encourage all students, faculty members, and staff members to say something if they see something.”
