Teen accused of fleeing from police

A Rome teenager is facing multiple charges following a police pursuit that occurred on May 25.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 17-year-old Avant Deshawn Fleetwood fled from a traffic stop in a stolen vehicle, leading police on a chase through East Rome and South Rome.

Along the way Fleetwood ran red lights and stop signs, continuously going into the opposite lanes of travel.

He eventually crashed the vehicle into some concrete poles and fled on foot.

Fleetwood turned himself in at the Floyd County Jail on Wednesday.

He is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, hit and run, duty upon striking a fixture, theft by receiving stolen property, reckless driving, obstruction of officers, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to maintain a lane, failure to obey traffic control devices, running a stop sign, too fast for conditions, failure to use a turn signal, and driving without a license.
