Phase-out resolutions approved for North Heights, Rome Middle

March 8, 2022–7:52 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City School Board has adopted phase-out resolutions for the former North Heights Elementary School facility and the current Rome Middle School facility.

The North Heights building will remain in use by system administrators for office space, specifically the School Nutrition Program. This allows access to a fully equipped kitchen to conduct training with staff. Additionally, the kitchen space in the North Heights building allows for warehouse space and freezer/cooler storage.

Rome Middle School’s current building was discussed for potential repurposing upon the completion of the proposed building of a new Rome Middle School. There is not a definitive plan for this space. All options will be considered as the new Rome Middle School project nears completion.

The Rome City School Board has also selected the Georgia School Boards Association as a firm to assist them in the search for a new superintendent.

Louis Byars announced on February 15 that he will be retiring after five years as superintendent.

His last day is May 31.
