February 28,, 2022–8:41 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

Pfc. Scott Kasmar is the Rome City Police Department’s 2021 Officer of the Year.

Prior to joining the Rome Police Department, Kasmar served in the US Army from 2004-2014 where he attained the rank of Staff Sgt.

He began his law enforcement career at Reinhardt College before coming to Rome in 2016.

He received the “Lifesaving Award” in 2018.

He was “Officer of the Month” four times in 2019.

Pfc. Kasmar was also named Officer of the Year that same year.

He was also “Officer of the Month” in 2020.

On February 3, 2021, Pfc. Kasmar was dispatched to a residence on Longmeadow Drive for a welfare check.

He discovered the man in the home had no food and had not eaten in three or four days.

The gentleman, who was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, had also recently lost his eyesight and had no family.

Due to the condition of the residence and the known delay in response time for adult protective services, Pfc. Kasmar identified the most immediate needs for the man and responded accordingly.

Using his own money, Kasmar bought groceries and set the man up with the Meals on Wheels program.

He also helped to set up assistance through a local living assistant provider.
