Rome BOE: Burge was sworn in, more on new Rome Middle School
Rome Board of Education met Tuesday for the first time in the New Year, and Pascha Burge, a Roman native and graduate of Rome High School, was sworn in for her first term on the board.
Burge and the other returning members of the board were sworn in by Floyd Superior Court Judge Kay Ann Wetherington.
The Board also elected a new Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson who will now serve as leaders.
The Board Chair is Jill Fisher and the Vice-Chair is Will Byington.
Also, one of the largest items of business on Tuesday’s agenda was the RCS resolution for the ESPLOST set for a vote in May of this year.
Superintendent Louis Byars said the largest portion of funds from the ESPLOST would be used for building a new Rome Middle School, a project that will help the system alleviate a growing elementary and middle school population.
Byars also said that the system would move all sixth-grade students to the new middle school and alleviate the pressure of a growing student population at the elementary schools.
RCS also updated the COVID-19 Decision Matrix with information advised by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
The update is consistent with the communication from Governor Kemp’s office and DPH.
