UPDATE: Authorities have identified the victim of a murder that occurred in Bartow County late last week.
26-year old Ashley Dunn died after being beaten with a hammer last Thursday at a residence on Old Allatoona Road.
PREVIOUSLY POSTED: Bartow County deputies booked 29-year-old Cory James Slaughter of Mableton into the jail on Thursday night for murder.
At about 4:07 Thursday afternoon, Bartow County E911 responded to a domestic violence incident in progress at an Old Allatoona Road residence.
The information received was that a female was being assaulted with a hammer by a male suspect.
Upon arrival at the home, deputies found the female victim, whom medical personnel determined to be deceased.
Deputies and investigators received information from witnesses that the suspect had fled the area on foot.
After a four-hour search, a BCSO drone located the suspect hiding in a wooded area nearby.
Besides murder, other related charges are pending the continuing investigation.
Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity at this time, pending next of kin notifications.
