September 13, 2021–9:56 a.m.

GEORGIA STATE PATROL

An 84-year old Cedartown man died in a three-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon on Highway 27 at Fairgrounds Road.

The state patrol reports that a tractor-trailer was traveling in the left lane of 27 southbound, and a Dodge Ram 3500 pulling a trailer was in the right lane, directly beside the tractor-trailer.

Dodge Dakota driven by 84-year old Harry G. Gray attempted to make a left turn and entered the tractor-trailer’s lane of travel.

The driver of the tractor-trailer tried to take evasive action, swerved to the right, and struck the left side of a Dodge Ram before striking the Dakota, which then caught fire.

Gray was pronounced dead at the scene.

This was the second fatality in less than 24 hours.

The Georgia State Patrol is continuing its investigation into a fatal hit and run involving a pedestrian in Polk County late last week.

According to the GSP, the pedestrian appeared to have been walking in the westbound lane of Highway 278 near Substation Road and was struck by a vehicle, which then left the scene.

The pedestrian succumb to his injuries and has not been identified.

That incident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. Friday.
