Floyd County still lagging behind in COVID-19 vaccinations

August 5, 2021–7:14 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

We are seeing an uptick in COVID-19 vaccination rates across the state.

However, Floyd County is still lagging behind.

As of Thursday, more than 4.8 million Georgians have gotten at least one dose, which is about 47% of the population.

More than 4.2 million Georgians, or 41%, are fully vaccinated.

As of Thursday, 35,540, or 37%, of Floyd County residents have gotten at least one dose, which is up by 103 from Wednesday.

32,490, or 33%, have been fully vaccinated.

That is up by 40 from the day before

Public health officials are saying that getting the COVID-19 vaccine is now more urgent than ever due to the Delta variant which spreads more than twice as easily from one person to another, compared with earlier strains.

The highest spread of cases and severe outcomes are happening in places with low vaccination rates, and virtually all hospitalizations and deaths continue to be among the unvaccinated.
