The Floyd County Schools (FCS) Child Nutrition program received $40,000 in grant funding to feed kids during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
School looks different this year for millions of students across America, but whether they’re learning in a classroom or online, kids need nutritious food to reach their full potential. With many families having lost jobs or wages in recent months, more kids than ever rely on the meals they get at school.
Meals for FCS families are being served in a variety of ways including grab and go weekend meals, curbside pickup for quarantined and virtual academy students, traditional meals in the classroom and cafeteria, and more.
“This school year looks different than any we’ve seen before, but one thing remains the same: kids rely on us not just for their education, but also for nutritious meals,” said FCS child nutrition director Donna Carver. “This grant from No Kid Hungry will help ensure that we can continue to provide our students with the nutrition they need to learn, while also helping their families make ends meet during this difficult time.”
As previously announced, the FCS Child Nutrition program will not charge any fees to any students for lunches through June 30, 2021, based on extended meal service flexibilities from the USDA. Breakfast is already served to all students free of charge. There are no forms to complete or income eligibility requirements for this federally funded temporary relief program.
