Katie Dempsey to serve in National Maternal Mortality Webinar

State Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome), chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, will participate as a state respondent for the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) upcoming webinar for maternal mortality on Friday, December 18, 2020, from 2 – 3 p.m. ET. During the “Saving Moms: Strategies to Reduce Maternal Mortality in the U.S.” webinar, Rep. Dempsey will share her experience working on maternal mortality legislation in Georgia, including laws she authored and co-sponsored. Other speakers during this webinar include a national expert who will provide an overview of maternal mortality in the U.S., an NCSL expert who will share recent state legislative trends addressing maternal mortality and a state legislator from New York who will share her work on the topic. Following the presentations, there will be 10 – 15 minutes dedicated for questions from the audience.

This bipartisan webinar is designed for state legislators and legislative staff to expand their knowledge regarding maternal mortality by hearing from experts in the field. This webinar is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau within the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Registration is open to the public.
