Georgia’s Unemployment Rate Rises In September

Georgia’s unemployment rate rose to 6.4 percent in September… that’s 7/10ths of a point higher than August.

However, the Georgia Dept. of Labor says that 65 percent of jobs lost to the pandemic, have been gained back since April.  Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said “We are encouraging those who have been displaced to take a look at the incredible number of career opportunities listed on “EmployGeorgia.com”.

New claims for unemployment benefits are mostly DOWN in area counties for September.  Walker County’s new claims were down by 30.  Whitfield County’s new claims were down by over 300 during the month.  The only exception was Chattooga County, where new claims were up by 38 in September.
