Chattooga Library Considers Merger with Sarah Hightower Library

September 8th, 2020 – 2:50 PM

WZQZ Radio –

(Via WZQZ Radio) The Chattooga County Library System is considering a merger with the Sarah Hightower Regional Library.  The move has been discussed by the Chattooga County Library Board of Trustees for several months.

If the system doesn’t merge, it will be faced with hiring a full-time librarian with a masters degree – something that would undoubtedly add a good bit of cost to the local library’s budget.  Trustees say that if the local system merges with another regional library, the Chattooga County Library would be spared that extra expense.

Also, trustees say that the library could benefit with better resources by being connected to a regional library system.

The Sara Hightower Regional Library System is a system of four public libraries in the Northwest Georgia region serving Polk County and Floyd County. The headquarters of the library system is located in Rome, Georgia at the Rome-Floyd County Library.

If a merger takes place, the current board of trustees would continue to oversee the Chattooga County Library and one person would be appointed to represent Chattooga County on the regional library board.
