Storms bring down trees and power lines overnight

Strong storms brought down trees and power lines across the area and there was a confirmed tornado in Chattooga County.

According to Sheriff Mark Schrader, there were 3 homes in the Fields Walk community in Pennville that had the roofs torn from the homes but there are no reports of injuries at this time.

The storms proved deadly in Bartow County.

One person is dead in Cartersville after a tree fell onto a house on Fite Street.

WBHF Radio in Cartersville reports that multiple family members confirmed the fatality.

No additional details are available.

Also, there is high water on Garden Lakes Parkway at Fox Croft Road.

There may be others as reports are still coming in.

911 is asking the public that if they don’t have to be out this morning, please stay at home.

There is a chance you may run across debris in the roadway that has not yet been reported.

Also, Georgia Power crews are out working on power outages, so do not call 911 if your power is out.  911 should be used for emergency calls only.

A Flood Warning is in effect until 10:15 this morning for Northeastern Floyd County, Northwestern Gordon County, and Chattooga County.

In general, 3 to 4 inches of rain has fallen, and although the rain has ended, runoff continues to keep rivers and streams high. A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 10 a.m.
