Rome adds to labor force in February

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Rome added to its labor force in February.

According to preliminary data, the one-county metropolitan statistical area (MSA) also showed a jump in employment for the month and the year.

In Rome, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points in February, reaching 3.7 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.2 percent.

The labor force increased in February by 303 and ended the month with 44,883. That number is up 654 when compared to February of 2019.

Rome ended February with 42,300 jobs. That number increased by 200 from January to February and increased by 500 over the year.

Rome finished the month with 43,207 employed residents.  That number increased by 350 over the month and is up by 826 when compared to the same time a year ago.

The number of unemployment claims went down by about 69 percent in February. When compared to last February, claims were up by about 9 percent.

The one-county MSA includes Floyd County.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 566 active job postings in metro Rome for February.
