Rome City Commission approves emergency declaration

March 23, 2020–9:05 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City Commission, in an effort to slow the spread of Coronavirus, has approved an ordinance requiring city residents to stay home, with some exceptions.

City Attorney Andy Davis said the ordinance is in line with what other cities are doing.

Residents can leave their homes to get food, medicine or other essentials.

Other exceptions include workers in essential services such as healthcare, public services, grocery stores, restaurants but no dining room and manufacturing facilities.

The ordinance will be in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 11:59 p.m. on April 7 and could be amended or rescinded based on changing conditions.
