[Study] Seeing family at holidays may be opportunity to spot signs of Alzheimer’s

December 14th, 2019

Understanding Alzheimer’s Press Release

With over 5.8 million adults living today with Alzheimer’s, being able to pinpoint early onset signs is crucial.

As the holidays approach, my team surveyed nearly 1,000 individuals, those of whom knew someone or is a family member with Alzheimer’s. We then paired the findings with research from the CDC and Alzheimer’s Association in an effort to learn more about the ways people can spot signs of Alzheimer’s.

We found the top signs to look out for:

  1. Confusion about where they are
  2. Difficulty communicating
  3. Personality changes
  4. Inability to recall your name
  5. Inability to recognize you

And the top preventative measures people are taking:

  1. Exercising more often
  2. Games, puzzles, or other brain exercises
  3. Began taking supplements
  4. Changed their diets
  5. Used brain training or neuroplasticity apps

This holiday season, noticing these signs could allow family members to detect Alzheimer’s early as 1 in 10 people over 45 said they experience confusion and memory loss more frequently.
