The countdown to the first day of school is on and Rome City Schools’ teachers are busy getting excited, especially after they attended the first annual Kickoff for Teachers!
Filling the Rome High School Auditorium to near capacity, teachers from all Rome City Schools were greeted by Assistant Superintendent, Dawn Williams, who warmly welcomed back the Pack with loads of great news and changes that will continue to push RCS towards success.
In an effort to increase family engagement, guest speaker Tyler Cummings, a representative from SchoolStatus introduced teachers to new parent engagement software. SchoolStatus is a new platform that allows teachers direct access to students’ parents.
“It is so important to continue to engage with our parents and form a relationship that will ultimately help our students become successful both in and out of the classroom,” said Louis Byars, Rome City Schools Superintendent.
Byars was also excited to introduce the new transportation campaign, Rollin’ With RCS, which will officially kick-off on January 1, 2020. Byars and Central Office staff are incredibly excited about the success this new transportation program will bring to Rome City Schools.
During the kickoff, Rome City Schools faculty members also recognized Ja’Taria Jackson and Jah’Lia Evans for their performances in the 2019 USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Just making the cut and being invited to compete was an honor, and Evans became the national triple jump champion because of her efforts. Nick Bridges, Rome’s track and field coach, told the story of these two young Wolves and thanked them for their dedication to the program.
Regina Evans, a new face at Rome Middle School, is thrilled to begin her first year in her dream career.
“I truly am so excited to begin my teaching career at Rome Middle School. In fact, I have been looking forward to being a teacher since I was five years old,” smiled Evans. “I am ready to help change lives, but also get to know these students and just try to be a positive influence.”
“We really tried to encourage our teachers and let them know that every day should be a challenge. Challenge yourself and challenge others,” explained Byars.
“I am very excited about this upcoming year. We’ve got a lot of positive things going on, a lot of new people coming in and the staff is beyond excited,” he continued. “This year, we are challenging our students to do their best by putting our focus on the children. In order to meet those goals, however, we have truly got to believe in our mission and in ourselves, which is what we strive to do through events like this one.”
