Good Samaritans Rule!
Nice to learn there still are some decent people in the world. In Saugus, Massachusetts, Leo Guarente had been hired to clean out what was mostly junk from the home of Marie Veloso's late mother. But he came across an envelope that contained anything but junk. Inside were 21 $1,000 US savings bonds -- all purchased in 1972. That means today the bonds are worth around $114,000! Guarente not only did the right thing, he had a little fun with it. He told Mrs. Velosa that he had found something interesting in the house-- but didn't reveal any details. Instead, he surprised her on the doorstep with the news that she was suddenly a lot richer than she thought. He later said, "It warms my heart to know that I helped someone." Mrs. Velose could say only: "We're shocked – overwhelmed!"
